GKS(Global Korea Scholarship) is a scholarship program that is supported by the government of the Republic of Korea, is implemented by the National Institute for International Education, which is an organization operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Education.

Beginning in 2010, all of the diverse scholarship-related projects supported by the central government will be organically linked integrated into a new program which is the Global Korea Scholarship. The objective of the Global Korea Scholarship(GKS) program is to generate deeper mutual understing between world countries by facilitating educational exchange human resource mobility, thereby contribute to the development of international education peace.

In particular, the Government of Korea seeks to develop mutual reciprocal cooperation with developing countries by providing software-oriented development assistance in education HRD, drawing from the experiences Korea holds in the fields of human resources development education.

The invitational programs for foreign students include the former Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP), which provides students from overseas with the opportunity to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies in Korea, a program which supports foreign exchange students studying in Korean universities based on MOUs between the respective universities, a program that supports excellent self-financed foreign students studying in Korean universities and a program to invite training university students from specific countries. 

With regard to the programs that target Korean students, there are two programs, including the Government Scholarship for Korean Students'' Overseas Studies, which aims to strategically foster world-class human resources in fields that are vital to the economic development of the nation, the Korea-Japan Government Scholarship for Young Engineers which is implemented as part of 'New Partnership for the 21st Century.'

The number of GKS beneficiaries and beneficiary requirements can change depending on the budget conditions determined by the Korean government.
