Global Korea Scholarship (GKS)
Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is a scholarship program supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea. It is administered by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), an organization under the Ministry of Education.
Since 2010, various government-funded scholarship programs have been integrated into the GKS program. Its main objective is to promote mutual understanding among countries by facilitating educational exchange and human resource mobility, thereby contributing to the development of international education and global cooperation.
In particular, the Korean government seeks to strengthen cooperative relationships with developing countries by providing education-focused development assistance, especially in the field of human resource development (HRD).
Programs for international students include:
- Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for undergraduate and graduate studies
- Exchange student programs based on agreements (MOUs) between universities
- Scholarships for outstanding self-financed international students
- Training programs for university students from selected countries
Programs for Korean students include:
- Government Scholarship for Overseas Studies (fostering global talent)
- Korea-Japan Government Scholarship for Young Engineers
The number of beneficiaries and eligibility requirements for GKS may vary depending on the Korean government's budget and policies.
